Blackburn’s 150-acre Green Hollow Center in the Loess Hills of Southwest Iowa is quite diverse, consisting of approximately 35 acres of prairie and grasslands and the remainder of timber, ravines, streams and a pond. Loess Hills plant and animal species are of special interest to experts and 39 are listed by the state of Iowa as endangered, threatened or of special concern. In fact, the Hills have one of the largest concentrations of rare species in the state.
